5 Gifts under $25.00 for Teacher Appreciation

At the end of every school year many parents struggle to find a gift for their children’s teachers to show their appreciation, most of them end up gifting yet another mug to said teachers to add to their endless mug collection. Honestly your child’s teachers will appreciate any gesture but if you are going to spend your money on a gift, there are ways to make it special while keeping the price reasonable. Maybe through the many conversations (I hope) you have had with your child’s teachers, you know what could be a great gift for them, but if you need some inspiration, below is a curated just list just for you!

  1. Umbrella! Teacher Appreciation Week is usually in May, and it is rain season, a purse size umbrella could make a great gift because they get to use it and there’s a chance they do not have 15 other umbrellas that says: Best Teacher Ever! And best of all, you can find umbrellas starting at $10.00!
  2. Caddy! If you realize you child’s teacher has to pay for most of the classroom expenses, you can fill up a caddy with supplies like markers, Scissors, glues and whatever you notice that classroom needs. New supplies always make teachers happy. You can make this arrangement yourself for $25.00 or less.
  3. Candles can also make a great teacher gift. I prefer the aroma therapeutic scents with essential oils because Lord knows they need it! My personal favorite is the Silence candle from Saje Natural Wellness, it is made with Lavender, Eucalyptus, Sage and essential oils. Promoting a similar effect as smudging sage in your home but in candle form. The small candle is about $19.00.
  4. Essential oils can also make a great gift because they are known to relieve stress. Again from Saje Natural Wellness, there are tons of essential oil roll-ons that are under $25.00 that could be beneficial to your children’s teachers. My top two are the Peppermint Halo used to relieve headaches and the Allergy Release to help during allergy season.
  5. Last but definitely NOT least, GIFT CARDS! You cannot go wrong with this option because a Target gift card has a special place in every teacher’s heart. If you run out of options, don’t have time to shop for a gift or maybe you do not know the teacher that well, you can always get a gift card. If you are going to spend your money on a gift, spend it on something that the teacher can actually use and enjoy instead on a mug that will sit in the cabinet unused.

There are so many other options you can choose from, get creative, celebrate and show appreciation to the teachers in your life. They are sowing many seeds in your babies’ lives, they are gifts that keep on giving.

Moms Meet’s WOW Influencers: Boston

I attended the WOW Influencers: Boston event and the energy there was nothing but inspiring. Moms Meet organizes WOW events to connect like-minded moms, bloggers and influencers to good-for-you brands. The Influencers’ events are smaller and they are held in more intimate atmospheres but Moms Meet also has an annual summit which is a two day event where moms and influencers get exposed to more brands and opportunities and this year it will be held in Arlington, Texas.

The Boston event was held at a restaurant and it was well put together and very intimate. The restaurant was booked for the event and they provided more than enough food and beverages for all of us. I had so much fun just meeting different bloggers and companies that I had to remind myself to grab a drink. The staff was so friendly, they made everyone feel comfortable. At the check-in table, they had a name tag for everyone attending with appointment cards for the brands they chose to speak with.

Bloggers were given the opportunity to choose appointments ahead of time with different brands to get one on one time with them and I had the amazing opportunity to meet with companies like Regular Girl, TinkerActive, Kiwi Magazine and Weldon. The appointments were set up in a speed dating style, and bloggers had their respective times to speak to different brands and when time was up, we moved to the next appointment. I loved meeting the amazing people at Regular Girl, they have such a great blogger program and I am excited to be part of it as a result of this amazing event.

To top it off they gave a HUGE goodie bag worth $250.00 filled with full size products from the brands that were there and some that were not. I was so happy to see that we got a TinkerActive workbook in there because I homeschool my daughter for now and it is a great addition to our at home curriculum.

Even if there are not any WOW Influencers events happening in your area, you can still sign up on the Moms Meet website to be an ambassador, it is a huge mom online community and you will get to sample better-for- you products for free.

Why I regret trying to speed up LABOR

If you are reading this, there is a good chance that you are very pregnant, tired and weary and you are ready to put this chapter behind you. The pregnancy that is. Every pregnancy is different so there is no cookie cutter way to being pregnant but legend has it that a few tricks can help speed up labor.

During my first full term pregnancy I had a lot going on including moving from one state to another with my then U.S Marine hubby, and my baby came a week prior to the due date I was given so I did not feel like I had enough time to worry. As a matter of fact, I remember wanting a bit more time. On my second full term pregnancy, I was overwhelmed at seven months. I started talking to baby early about exiting my womb. Again I did another major move because hubby was retiring from the Marines, just my luck, and everything my body thought was easy in the first pregnancy was a hurdle in the last.

By the time I got to 38 weeks, I was through with being pregnant! I was heavy and I was swollen from my face to my toes and I started looking for remedies to safely help this baby out! Hubby and I started walking for 30 minutes a day, which did not help. Since I am Haitian, the suggestions for home remedies kept making their ways to me so I ended up entertaining a few. My sister boiled raw peanuts and had me drink the stock, did not work for me. My mother in love cooked me a meal with okra, since it is slimy I guess she was hoping the same effect happened on my cervix, baby did not budge. When I went for my 39 weeks appointment, out of desperation I had the nurse stripped my membranes and I was sure that would do the trick but I was not so lucky. I did the baby mama dance with hubby, walked up and down three flights of stairs many times and lastly I drank some castor oil. Nothing helped! At least not for me.

Now I do not want you to get discouraged, because I have heard of people who rave about these methods but it could also be the fact that they were ready to give birth and they coincidentally used one of the methods above. If you are already active throughout your pregnancy and your doctor says it is okay for you to keep going, keep moving! But I have learned that baby will come when baby is ready, the wait might seem long but it is not longer than the many months you have been pregnant, plus increasing your level of activity is not a smart choice at the end of your pregnancy. After putting my body through all that at nine months pregnant, I was exhausted and when I got the hospital I was in labor for nearly 48 hours because I still was not dilated. I simply wished I had saved my energy for actual labor.

If your body is not ready, it does not matter what you do, baby will stay put until baby sees fit. I suggest you take plenty of warm baths, relax, have plenty of sex, as much as your body can go for, get a pregnancy massage and plenty of foot rubs at home. Put your feet up, sip on some tea and save your energy because you will need it for labor and beyond.
